Introduction to the Student Mom

My name is Cassie Lunsford and I am a junior studying Health and Exercise Science. I hope to go on to Physician’s Associate school after I earn my bachelors. I am a mommy to a three year old boy and a two week old boy. My husband is in the Air Force and is fixing to be deployed for the first time in October. My kids are my life. I don't really have any hobbies besides taking care of them, but that doesn't really bother me much.

I love to read! A few of my favorites are North of Beautiful, The Maze Runner trilogy, and The Door Within trilogy. I also greatly enjoy movies, but I can't think of my favorite off the top of my head. My favorite tv shows are probably Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill, and Supernatural. My music taste covers a wide variety. From Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco, to Michael Buble and Josh Groban. I also like Dan and Shay, Thomas Rhett, and Maroon 5.

My career goals are to become a Physician’s Associate. At least that's my practical goal. My wild and crazy dream goal would be to either act or sing professionally.
I have a five month old German Shepherd who is a spoiled brat. She's more spoiled than my three year old son.

Favorite foods…. Hmm. I love ice cream, pretty much any flavor. I also really like wavy potato chips. As for my favorite meal, that would probably have to be steak. It's just fantastic.

If I had an extra day for fun, I'd probably spend it hanging out with my kids and my husband. It wouldn't really matter to me what we were doing. I just love spending time with them. Like I said most of my hobbies include taking care of my kids, but I really love taking care of them. I always look forward to spending time with them during the day. I especially love when my husband is able to get to spend a large amount of time with us as well. He works the night shift at his base and so he sleeps during the day. So getting to spend time with him is something I look forward to also.
That's me :)

  1. Oh, Cassie, I will be thinking good thoughts for you and your family in October! And I know you will be glad when he gets back home again. Maybe the storytelling in this class can be a fun distraction. I'm always glad when people take this class and can find stories to share with their own children... and your children can even be the stars of your stories too! Although if Samantha gets jealous, she could be the star and your children could be co-stars, ha ha.

For an example of a family project, here's a lovely Storybook someone did with her son as the hero: Young Jamie and the Tasks of Titania ... she told me he was too young for the story now, but she is saving it for him when he gets older, which I thought was so sweet. So if you want to make your class project a family event, please feel free to do that. All children need stories! :-)

  2. Hello Cassie, My name is Heather. I chose your from Group I to comment on your introduction and story. I am in group 3 for week one. How great that you have two little boys. You must have your hands full between family and school. It is great that you like to read. I am looking forward to graduating so that I have time to read something for relaxation rather than a test. I never let myself get into tv series because I never can make myself finish them due to time. then I'm left wondering what happened, but I love to watch movies. My favorite movie is North and South. It is a war movie. How cool would it be to act or sing for a career. I also really enjoy singing. I was in honors choir when I was young and loved it, but my passion is to practice law. I think it is great that you are all about your family! I am looking forward to reading your story.

  3. Hi Cassie! I am also studying Health and Exercise Science but I want to be a Physical Therapist. Your dog Samantha is adorable. Once I get out of school I want to adopt a dog, however I'm between a German Shepherd, Goldendoodle, and a Husky. All I know is I want a big dog! My music tastes is also very expansive. I like country music, and some of todays top music, however my dad got me into some older bands such as the Goo Goo Dolls, Fountains of Wayne and Matchbox Twenty. I just started watching One Tree Hill, and so far my favorite is Brooke Davis (hopefully that doesn't change).

  4. Cassie, congratulations on the newest addition to your family! That is so exciting. I hope you'll get to keep reading and watching your favorite shows even with a newborn. I love that you mentioned reading because I think it is a hobby that many don't have in society today. I've heard The Girl On The Train is really good, so you might check it out if you're looking for a new book!

  5. Wow, your one busy lady! I bet it’s hectic in your household. I also love to read! I’m still trudging forward on my GoodReads challenge this year. I hope I can make it to the end or I will be sorely disappointed! I have heard great things about The Maze Runner trilogy, but I have yet to read it.. I’m kind of behind on the newer books. I had a really big lull in reading a while back and now I feel like I’m playing catch up constantly.

  6. Hey Cassie, congratulations on your second child! I don't think I'll be having any of my own for a while, but spending time with my niece and nephew has taught me that children can be a real joy! Also it's super cool that you want to become a PA. My sister just finished PA school and she loves it, I'm sure you will too! Best of luck to you!

  7. Hey Cassie!

Your family sounds awesome, I bet your sons are adorable! And Samantha is very cute as well. I don't have kids of my own but I do have a 3 and a 4 year-old little sister and brother! They say some of the funniest things!

Also, I love ice cream as well! If it’s anywhere near me I can’t resist it!

    Good luck with your boys!

  8. Hi Cassie!

Sounds like you've got a fun and busy life! Samantha is so cute. Wavy potato chips and ice cream are also some of my favorite foods. I haven't read the maze runner books, but I did see the movie. I didn't like it much, but I've heard the books are much better.

Also I really like your german shepherd, she looks super cute and fun. I really like your taste in tv shows and music, Supernatural is one of my favorite shows and I am a huge Thomas Rhett and Michael Buble fan.

  11. CASSIE!

You sound like a super mom with your hands full! I hoe you are able to accomplish your more wilder dreams. I have a 5 month old Bernese Mountain Dog who is SO spoiled and is a total lap dog. What's your dogs name? My dog's name is Henri :)
I used to major in health and exercise science, but Moved out of it and into journalism with a focus in Public Relations. I was on the pre-med route, but found that doing the book work was not my thing because I am much more of a hands on person.
It sounds like you are doing really well for yourself and have a beautiful family. Best of luck for the rest of this semester and positive vibes being sent your way!

  12. Hey Cassie, it is nice to meet you. First off your german shepherd is to die for. I love dogs, especially that breed. I had a german shepherd husky mix growing up that I loved. One thing I'm looking forward to is getting a puppy after college. It sounds like you have a pretty busy schedule keeping up with kids and school. Good luck this semester and I hope you accomplish your goals!

  14. Hi Cassie! I also liked the Maze Runner BOOK series. I put “book” in all capitals because the movies in my opinion were pretty awful compared to the books so far. German Shepherds are one of my favorite breeds of dog. My roommate last year had a shepherd mix puppy that was super cute. I commend you for being able to manage your time so well with school and kids. Keep up the good work!

  15. Hi Cassie! I love the Maze Runner book series. I read all of the them in like a 2 week span, but I wasn't that in to the 4th book that is like a prequel. My dog was a boxer so I love bigger dogs so thank you for not being one of those small dog people. Big dogs are the best and are amazing to play with. I hope all is going well with you and think it is very amazing that you are keeping a great attitude through the difficulties of having a kid and being in school. Hope you have a great year.

It was really inspiring to read your introduction, you are so busy! Hope you are doing well. I can’t wait to read more of your stories!

  17. Hi Cassie! I love the font of your site.. I haven't seen anyone with this font yet! It's pretty! Congratulations on your family, it seems so full. I can't wait to have babies and a dog, the whole nine yards. It's the dream! Props to you for going to school even with young children, I know that isn't always easy. You seem to be doing a great job, though!

  18. Hi Cassie! I love the layout of your blog (Sorry if I already said this on your portfolio! It really helps personalize who you are and what you want to write about! Its exciting that you have two kids! That means that you have an automatic audience when you want to practice your signing or acting skills! I know my nephew loves hearing people sing, so I bet your kids are an attentive audience! I applaud your choice of books! I love the Maze Runner series, but I am skeptical on if I like the movies or not! Thanks for sharing and I look forward to reading more from you!

  19. Hey Cassie
You must be one heck of a hard worker to want to be a Physicians Associate! That is so great and inspiring! That's nice that you're husband gets to spend some time with you and your sons even though he works so late. I can only imagine what it must be like. I say I'm a night owl but he totally trumps me haha. I watch Grey's for a bit but don't have the free time to anymore. I hear the season has gotten really juicy! Spending time with family is always great no matter what it entails. I hope you are having a great semester!

  20. Ooh! I absolutely adore that picture of your dog. I'm a real sucker for German Shepherds I had two growing up (who have since passed on) and my parents currently have two. They're really the best dogs. My father was also in the Air Force (although retired now) so my family knows how hard it is going through a deployment. I know you'll get through it just fine and I hope you don't have too rough of a time. I'm sending good vibes your way from someone who's been in that situation!

  21. Cassie! So nice to meet you. I love you that enjoy spending time with your kids! I feel like sometimes that gets lost when parents are working for a career. I also think it's amazing that you're going to school as well, I can't imagine how much work that must be!
I had a hard time getting through the Maze Runner series but I believe I will have to check out your other favorite books. Also, I am a Supernatural fanatic! Very good choice in show. It's so nice to meet you.

  22. Cassie! Wow, I'm so impressed with you! I love reading the amount of love and devotion you have for your family. It makes my heart sing! I hope all is well with your husband being deployed and I will keep him and your family in my thoughts and prayers while he is away.

I am also a huge supernatural fan! I'm guessing you have caught up on the new season? I haven't had time to yet. Thats one of my plans over winter break. I hope the rest of the semester goes well for you!

  24. Wow! Being a student mom must be very tough for you to balance both school work and taking care of your family. I have a good friend who has a five years old daughter, and she took her to our meeting when she couldn’t find a babysitter. I applauded to you for doing so well in being student mom. Nice to know you!

  25. I love that I can feel your love for your family through this introduction! You are incredible for looking after your boys and being in school; I applaud you!

Grey's Anatomy is one of my ALL TIME favorite shows. I wanted to be a doctor for so long just so I could live their lives, haha! I also love your dog; she seems so sweet! I am an aunt to a puppy-niece that's also a German Shepherd. They're such beautiful dogs!
